If you have loaded your Firefox with loads of extensions, it is bound to slow down. You can try playing around with their options and configurations and you might just strike the right chord. However there are a few other ways and means by which you can push the beast a little faster. Here are a few handy tips for those who feel that their firefox needs a little tweaking.
Manual tweaks
1. Pipelining
Enable pipelining in your firefox. This allows your browser to make multiple requests to a web server. For this, type about:config in the address bar, and search for the following entries :
network.http.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
network.http.proxy.pipelining
Set their values to ‘true’, ‘8′ and ‘true’ respectively. For the second entry listed above you can type in just about any figure but in order to ensure that you do not flood the server with requests a figure under 16 is advised.
2. Decreasing submenu delay
In about:config find the entry ui.submenuDelay and set its value to less than 10 or 0.
3. Decrease response delay
Create a new entry called ‘nglayout.initialpaint.delay’ by right-clicking anywhere and selecting New-> Integer. Set the value of this entry to ‘0′. A further detailed list of combination of entry values for different types of computers and connections can be found here.
4. Compressing the DLLs and executables as explained here
However this may or may not work depending upon various conditions.
