Kaspersky scanner is completely free!

kaspersky Kaspersky anti-virus is one of the most effective anti-virus I’ve ever come across. Not only it has good detection rate, it’s light on the system memory too. I was happy to see that Kaspersky has released the free scanner for the users.

However, please note that this is just an on-demand scanner and it won’t clean the virus or remove it for you.

Now the question rises that why do you want to use it, when it can’t clean or stop viruses and here’s the answer to this tricky question :

Well, I always vouch for having two anti-viruses on a system! (C’mon linux fans, you have a chance to speak) I know that most of the anti-virus firms say that it’s not good to have to anti-virus software but let me make my statement a little bit clear.

It’s always good to have one full anti-virus software which runs in real-time, however it’s even better when you have an anti-virus software whose real-time scanning should be disabled and runs as an on-demand scanner.

By having Kaspersky S.O.S you’ll be able to check your current anti-virus’ scanning capabilities and secondly if S.O.S. detects then you can always search on Google that how you can get rid of a particular virus. Almost all the anti-virus companies tell you a manual way of getting rid of viruses.

So, I’ll say that install this software for sure and run it once in a week to ensure that you are safe from those nasty malware!

I will be installing it as a backup to Norton. But dont you think that they might conflict or something?

  3. ReviewSaurus January 28, 2008 11:54 pm

@ Madhur : Well, it won’t conflict with Norton as I mentioned that it’s just an on demand scanner and doesn’t scan any file in real time.

So, even if norton says that it won’t work…then take it that now it’s time to change norton…coz norton isn’t that smart..but if it allows you to install it, then stay happy :)

  6. Rakshit January 29, 2008 6:36 am

Right now I am using NOD32 as the real time scanner. Looking forward to use Kaspersky in conjunction with NOD32……

@ Shashank & Rajesh : Yes, I’m using AVG as real time scanner.

@ Rakshit : Nod32 one of my fav.s again! Prior to installing free AVG, I was using Nod32 only but then decided that I’ll go with AVG.

Yeah, even though it is a pity that it can’t remove / clean the virus, it can be used to benchmark your resident antivirus protection though. Good idea.

Although, we’ll publish the solution once we fix it :)

Sounds like the Bagle (Beagle) Win32 worm. When you launch an AntiVirus program, do you get a Win32 application error ?
