ProtoPlasm: Strictly for the pros!
Its nice being back after a long hiatus at ReviewSaurus and when I stumbled upon this software; I couldn’t ask for more! At last, a software for those who can’t invest in Pioneer equipment and still are perfectionists when it comes to creating music. The first thing that strikes the user is the complex clutter of dials and displays making it more or less resemble a F-18 cockpit; but as I told, this thing is for the pros who have an eye for perfection.
The features that make ProtoPlasm a viable option are Super Modulation Morphing, Modulation Matrix, a high pass filter and a low pass filter each, three digital PCM-wave oscillators sourced by 128 waveforms (though I haven’t tried everything) “sample and hold option, stereo delay, Low Frequency Oscillation. Phew! Quite a stuff! Isn’t it? After all this jargon, it isn’t that difficult to work in this software. A little bit of tweaking around in this Windows based program and a little previous knowledge of music and other music making software is all that is required to master this software.
But as a Computer Musician myself, I wouldn’t opt for this software as there are lot more simpler software to achieve more or less the same result (Point to be noted is that I am neither a pro nor do I care for perfection in my compositions!) Even if I am left with no other option, I will use this software strictly for editing and adding effects and not for composing itself.
The version number still leaves me in a little dazed. What does this 21 stand for? Searching the internet was in vain. Anyway, the software is good enough that it doesn’t matter even if the questions remain unanswered!
