Vinod reviewed Active @ File Recovery software (Enterprise edition) and has found it to be one of the better softwares in the category of Data recovery softwares. Vinod finds some of the features pretty useful and has listed them in his blog post :
Features of Active File Recovery :
- Very small in size – Just 350 KB
- Explorer like interface makes it easy to use.
- Recognizes many filetypes.
- Can run recoveries on RAID volumes.
- Supports FAT12, FAT 16, FAT 32, NTFS, NTFS 5, NTFS+EFS file systems.
- Possibility of recovering data from even damaged disks or disks in which partition table is corrupt.

I just went through hell this week after I unintentionally formatted a hard drive that had all my valuable data (tax returns, pictures, etc.). I had pretty much accepted the fact that my data was not going to be recovered after trying various tools. Lo and behold, Active File Recovery did an amazing job. I was able to recover EVERYTHING, and I had the ability to recover a bunch of files I had deleted prior to my meltdown (guess I shouldn’t be surprised).
In any case, I actually got a pirated version of this software, and it has been years since I have actually paid for any software I use. However, I will be buying a license [I promise] from Active just because I am so grateful for what Active File Recovery was able to do for me. What price can you put on your data?
