ScribeFire – Most Used Blogging Editor!

scribefire.jpgPayPerPost took the Honor of buying part of performancing and thus Nick Wilson had to rename the most used blogging editor (survey done by Problogger.net) to ScribeFire from Performancing for Firefox. Nick Wilson (the founder of Performancing) has already mentioned this in his personal blog that it is not the full performancing which will be sold, only some part of it is sold to Payperpost.

Now, lets see how good the blogging software (rather plugin) is and lets cheer about the addition of one more blogging client in the growing list of reviewed desktop blogging clients. It is to be noted that the name has been changed to ScribeFire and with a new tag lineFire up your blogging but they have to yet make changes in the plugin itself as it still says Performancing for Firefox. I think that they’ll be making the changes soon. Anyway, lets not look at that but lets look at the working of the software/plugin.

PROS of ScribeFire :

1. Direct blogging from the browser : It is said that because blogging is something which is related to the various news and that most of the blogging is nothing but the circulation of the news, so it is always good that if one can use the browser itself in making the posts. That’s why Flock is doing good in the blogosphere.

2. Support for major blogging platforms : It supports all major blogging platforms like wordpress, blogger, typepad etc. In case it fails to list your blog platform then it has the ability on that blog as well, but you’ll need to manually configure it.

3. WYSIWYG & HTML editing support : ScribeFire allows users to write the content in the WYSIWYG environment and in cases where you need to edit the HTML, it allows that as well. Thus, it leaves no scope for cribbing :)

4. FTP upload support : It also lets bloggers to upload the images directly from the plugin itself using FTP. This is one of the must have features and I’m impressed that this plugin has this capability. Many blogging clients which are much bigger in size than this plugin, miss this feature.

5. Extensible using plugins and themes : Another impressive feature of this plugin is that it lets users to install plugins in this plugin itself! Basically giving you the capability of enhancing this plugin. The list of the plugins is not big but still, we can always expect more plugins or add-ons in near future.

6. Useful features : It has the ability to store unpublished posts, automatic insertion of Technorati links. It gives users the ability to check the analytics of the blog too and that can be done by the use of Performancing metrics.

CONS of ScribeFire :

1. No support for other browsers : The plugin is only available for Firefox and I think that it will be nice to see if this plugin can be created for other browsers as well. Firefox is a good browser but still Internet Explorer has the biggest share in the browser market and thus a plugin for Internet explorer will be nice.

2. No Spell Check : It fails to provide the spell check features. It is really important to have spell check, as while typing there can be many typos and thus anyone will love to run the spell check before publishing the post. However, the problem will not be faced by the users who’ve upgraded their Firefox to the version 2, as Firefox has the inbuilt spell check feature and that works in this plugin as well.

Overall Rating & Views :

ScribeFire is certainly one of the best and easy to use blogging client. It serves the purpose of the blogging client and that too in such a small size (around 250 Kb only). If you are looking for a stable and simple blogging client then ScribeFire is for you. It will be nice to see the support for other browsers too and so if you want to use this, then you will need to install Firefox on your computer as well.

No spell check? Yes, ScribeFire has no spellcheck feature. But, the latest edition of Firefox has embedded spell check facilities. If you miss typed, then it will be red underlined.
