SpyEraser : Remove those spyware completely!

  07 Dec 2007 by ReviewSaurus | , , , , ,

spy-eraser Spywares have been a big problem for everyone and we all need a software which can help us fight these crappy objects. Anyway, there are lot of free spyware software available on the Internet and I’ve always been a supporter of SpyBot - Search & Destroy.

Today we’ll look at SpyEraser, one of the popular products from UniBlue (A Microsoft Gold Certified Partner). At first look, SpyEraser looks just like other UniBlue products and that’s wonderful because if you use one of their products then you’ll face no problem in using this software. Otherwise too, the interface of SpyEraser is quite simple and provides ease of use.

Do a free scan of your computer and find out if is infected from spywares or not!

What Impresses me :

1. Offers two scanning mode : It provides two scanning mode, quick and deep scan.

2. Works on Heuristic threat analysis : This means that it will not alert you about those spyware which are in it’s database but it will also alert you about those unknown spywares which work on a certain pattern. Thus, it takes care of most of the spywares.

3. Real time guard : Real time guard ensure that it lets you take decisions about various changes which spywares make, for e.g. it takes care of Browser helper objects, allows you to put some sites in the safe list, Internet Explorer extensions. Apart from Internet related activity, it takes care of startup process, running process, registry changes and allows you to block programs too.

There are some other features like making easy registry tweaks like disabling system locking, registry editor, task manager and other similar stuff.

What needs to be improved :

1. Downloads the whole database : While it is updating the spyware database, it downloads the whole database. I would prefer if it could do the incremental update as they are small and update faster. The database size is around 4 MB at this time, so if you are fine in downloading that size (it’s not much in this age of high Internet speed) then you may ignore this CON.

Bottom Line :

If you are looking for a spyware software, which doesn’t involve too much interaction from your side (which new computer users will prefer) then this is the software for you! It’s an ultimate spyware fighting tool.

Software License and other info :

I use Spy Hunter which is also quite good and comes in free with Google Pack. But I guess it misses a lot of features from SpyEraser so will give this a try.

I’ve tried this sometime back! I didn’t have much good experience about it. Even if it finds out a spyware it didn’t have effective mechanism to remove them effectively. Also it reports lots of false negative! If it was me, I wont recommend it personally.

@ Keith : It’s a good software and no doubt anyone will like it.

@ Ben : Well, I’m not sure which version you’ve tried but I’ve used it myself and tested it against lot of spywares and it was able to detect them. It did mark LimeWire as spyware but it makes sense as you may easily get infected (if you are not a computer savvy person) through p2p softwares.

It’s interface is quite easy and gives you lot of options like quarantine and even gives you the option to ignore the software (just in case it triggers any software as spyware). So, I think there is no point that you’ll say that it should not be recommended. I think from new computer users, they’ll find it more user friendly.

@ Nirmal : Yeah, yet another anti-spyware :). And as I explained that it may be for a price but it’s good for new computer users. I know that computer savvy people like you, Ben and Keith won’t find any problems and that you all can do without spending even a single penny but what happens to those who don’t have any idea about these things ?
