Why Envy Vista when Windows XP can get AERO effect!

topdesk-logo Vista may have its patrons. But I am certainly not one of them and TopDesk has increased my reasons. One really likable feature in Vista is Window Flip (AERO). It is certainly eye catching and gives the desktop  more 3d look. But then there’s nothing that’s not possible on XP.

TopDesk comes as a great tool which adds this feature to your Windows XP giving you one more reason to stick to the aging OS. Using a reasonable 18-20 Mb of your RAM, it runs in the tray and gives a decent performance without slowing down your PC. It has ample options to customize the program according to your needs. Here are some of the options it provides -

  • tile all windows
  • tile visible windows
  • tile application windows
  • hide visible windows
  • deciding the mouse hotspot area and size
  • deciding the tiling animation
  • deciding window layout
  • decide on method of enumeration

Thus it not only makes switching windows much easier and quicker but also much better looking. Now I won’t say that this software is a must have as it is a kind of tool that enhances your desktop experience and is not really necessity. But for all those XP owners who used to envy the Vista interface, this comes as a great gift. The only trouble is that the software is not free and can cost your pocket a bit. But then at least a 14 day trial that the company offers can be availed of. And who knows, you might just feel like buying it after that!

    Win-Flip is a freeware that can do the same, and also takes very less memory.It also needs no installation.

    @Venkat
    Hey! Checked out Win-Flip. Though it uses far lesser memory, it seems to lack in terms of customizations. Still, since it is free none the less, it too is a good option! Thanx for letting us know about it.
