Some time back when I was looking for a desktop blogging client, I was wondering that which will be the good blogging software and which will make my life easier while blogging. But, after looking at a good amount of blogging clients (although, it was difficult to find the best of the lot), I decided that I’ll review the desktop blogging clients so that other bloggers can make use of the blogging softwares for making things simpler. Here’s the list of some of the desktop blogging client, which I’ve reviewed and this post is to summarize them and to make sure that everyone can easily get hold of those reviews and find them at one place.
Now, before I list all the blogging clients, I would like to stress on few points which tells you that why it is good to use desktop blogging client as compared to default editor.
1. It creates backup : Desktop blogging clients keeps the published posts on the local hard drive and thus one has got the backup of each and every post which is posted through, blogging client and thus in worse situations like data loss, you’ll not be worried about loosing all the posts. Only comments will be lost, although, if you make the backup regularly then you don’t have to really worry but still it is good to have the posts backed up through blogging client as well.
2. Browser crash : You may be working on the best post and suddenly you notice that everything has gone as there was a browser crash, Alas! but that’s what happens a lot to people. Although, wordpress has released the auto save feature but that wordpress only and that too the newest version, it may be that other blogging platform may not have auto save feature. And because blogging clients have that feature, the fear of loosing the posts gets low.
3. Easy file uploading : Blogging clients easily integrate images and easily uploads the images to the on the fly, while publishing the posts and thus one saves time and effort.
4. Spell Check : Blogging client includes the spell checkers and thus one can be sure that they’ll not publish the post with many typos.
Well, there are many more features which one can find useful or make someone prefer a blogging client software over the default editor, however, it is surprising that most of the blogger still use the default editors only. However, I prefer to use blogging clients and I always suggest people to use them only. Now, let me give you the list of the desktop blogging clients reviewed by me :
1. ScribeFire
2. Flock – Browser cum Blogging client.
4. W.Bloggar
6. BlogJet
7. Ecto
I hope that you would be able choose the best suited bloggig software from this list and will be able to make use of the usefulness of these blogging softwares. Incase you use anyother blogging software and want to get it reviewed, then please leave the name of the program in the comment and we’ll give you the most honest review.

second think u forgot to mention Blogdesk (blogdesk.org) its a good one. i used to use it back when on my p3 64 ram machine than ran win98
and yes, now i use live writer..love the web layout & web previews!
Thats really cool list.I though blog from wp itself dont get the feeling if i do from a client. Moreover wp has now included autosave and spell check so i really feel like may be next time.
Same case here.
I too use the WordPres editor itself for the feel of it. And also, I like it that the HTML is kept clean. I am not sure how the blog clients would deal with it. If they put presentational elements in the HTML that would be a big ‘no-no’ for me.
I would like to keep the HTML clean in my posts, so that later, when I redesign my blog, I can always update their presentation without going in and editing each of them.
Well blogging client is a good option for blogging definitely..as i use windows live writer but there is problem in embedding images with the post in case in windows live writer….as i need to setup an ftp account or insert images after.can you suggest any solution for this problem ?
well Ashish, the best feature, which I discussed was that it gives you the backup of the posts and that too without any problems. I saved my posts on my personal blog where, I’d lost everything. But I was able to republish everything and that too without any problems, so that’s why I suggest you to use a blogging client.
@ Vyoma, Well, I’ve changed the blog design thousands of time, but there was simply no problems and I think that really doesn’t make a difference to the blog design and theme…so it is safe to use the blogging software over there as well.

You might want to stay away from ScribeFire, it now has inbuilt, on by default spyware. Google "scribefire zemanta-pixie" for more information.

I personally believe that Windows Live Writer is the best blogging software available at the moment.
