Vista Codec pack is a bundle of many codec and after the installation, you can play all the file formats from Windows media player or Vista media center. You don’t have to download any other media player like Apple Quick Time to play quick time movies or Real player to play real media files.
There are many other codec packs/players which can achieve the task for you and my personal favorite are K-Lite media codec & VLC Player.
However, installing many software can slow down your computer, so I’ll suggest you to simply download Vista Codec Pack and stop worrying about any missing codec.
