Web browser was a problem (don’t ask me which problem, we all know it) which was solved by Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird is loved by most of the people who are troubled by Spam. Pidgin is awesome when it comes to multi-IM software and GIMP is loved by the graphics designers who can’t afford Photoshop, including Sumesh who writes about it regularly.
All these programs are powered by Open-Source. All the bloggers (including me) praise the efforts put in by millions of developers around the world to develop some great piece of software! And now, I’m quite missing the community, where it’s required the most! where is open-source community ?
We need a pro internet security software which can be a tough competition to all those companies which are taking huge amount of information from us like information about viruses, spyware etc. and still charge us for providing the security software.
Ok, we’ll have some people saying we have ClamWin AV as one of the security program which can fight against viruses! Right you are! It perfectly serves the purpose on that machine of mine, which I don’t bring online and doesn’t have any floppy drive, USB ports and yeah no CD/DVD drives too!
Well, sometimes I wonder that why in the world I didn’t learn any programming language. Well, I can’t do anything like this on my own, but I wish someone smart (geek) picks this idea and should start a company which will provide pro internet security software for free!
1. Create an open-source internet security software (with serious efforts) with all the features, like anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, link scanners, anti-phishing etc. etc.
2. Approach some VC for the funding to improve it as much as you can with couple of full time developers.
3. Approach Yahoo/Google/Microsoft and ask them that you’ll integrate their search engine in the toolbar (which apparently AVG has done recently in it’s latest version) and start to make money through ads served around search results or simply strike a deal that you’ll take X amount of money for 1 year contract etc. etc.
4. This model can work perfectly for all the home users and as soon as you start making money, hire more full time developers and improve it for the corporate level and then start competing big time from Symantec, Trend Micro etc.
What are the chances of such a model ?
Well, with the likes of software like Mozilla Firefox and WordPress getting funding and getting huge appreciation around the world, I’m sure if right people with right strategies work on this idea, then we’ll have the much needed Pro internet security for free too! What are your thoughts on this ?
And now that I’ve been thinking so much about you, why don’t you do me a favor, Digg, stumble or Reddit this article and let those companies know that we deserve a pro internet security software for free!
1)Thanks for the link.
2)You’re still not too late to learn a programming language.
3)Integrating Google/Yahoo search is a great idea (Firefox earns millions of USD every year from that revenue-sharing)
4)This may not happen any time soon, because there is too much risk involved - it may never take off from the ground.
5) Security is a tricky issue, and you need luck to have good security systems.
6)I’ve dugg this!
It’s hard to learn Programing language for me
but Hey…there’s thousand programing tool that we can use
