BlueString, XDrive which one will you choose ?
Back in 2005, AOL bought XDrive and decided to give away 5 Gb of space for free and then nearly faded away as far as the media hype is concerned. However, it seems that they have started to make various changes in the service to create the media hype again. However, this time around they are making some good changes in the service and making it much more useful!
AOL has decided that come up with two interfaces for different users using the X-Drive’s core technology. BlueString, a service which has been targeted for people who are concerned with storing the images and creating slideshows. BlueString is like XDrive shows, although the latter works better. It seems pretty useless to me that they’ve created BlueString although, same features are available in the main X-Drive service itself.
AOL has created a facebook application, which allows you to showcase your media files in your network of friends at facebook. AOL has certainly started working hard and accepted the fact that they should be following the users, rather than making users follow them.
Orkut is now social answering service!
Orkut has added a new feature called Ask Friends, few hrs. back and the feature is that you can ask questions from your friends and they can answer them for you.
This sounds more like LinkedIn Answers and I’m sure it will certainly make sense to have such applications in Orkut as these applications increase the social interaction and help you find more friends who have similar interests.
The process of adding the Ask friends feature is easy and you just have to go into the Edit Feeds and there you’ll get the option of adding this application. Once added, you can simply type in your question and either ask the question among all of your friends or simply chose some of them.
As you type your question, it automatically suggests few labels and you can either chose those or you can suggest few labels yourself. The relevancy is really great and the suggested labels are to the point.
