Add Run in the Start Menu of Windows Vista

  10 Apr 2007 by ReviewSaurus

I’m sure that the users of Windows Vista must be missing the RUN feature of windows. This handy little utility is capable of running various shortcuts and commands directly. However, this feature is not flaunted by Microsoft in many versions of Windows Vista (not sure about which edition has it and which doesn’t).

Anyway, the workaround to get the RUN feature work for you are :

1. Using the shortcut for RUN command : Press the Windows Key + R.
2. Bringing it permanently on Start Menu : With this you can have RUN command sit at the start menu just like the earlier versions of Windows. For this you have to follow these steps :
a) Right click on the start menu or the task bar and select properties.
b) Click Customize button.
c) You’ll see the option of displaying RUN in start menu. Simply Select it.

With this you’ll be able to run various commands with ease and this article, is a must read for those who are still not sure of what they can do with that RUN command.

Doesn’t the search box in the Vista Start menu also act as a Run box? I heard you can just type in “cmd” and press Enter key to bring up the Command Prompt. Maybe it’s doesn’t have the full power of the Run dialog (talk about the Browse button and long commands).

@ Arun : Well, it some times act as the run but not completely. So, to add the actual run box, you have to perform the steps.

@ Carson : I’m glad that you liked it :)

Not much on my mind right now, but it is not important. I have just been letting everything happen without me. I just do not have anything to say right now.
