@ Dunxd : Well, I agree that its hardly called sharing. Of course, this thing is not where near to normal file and printer sharing but its just that if you do get paranoid after thinking what all can go wrong if you enable file and printer sharing then this way you can transfer the files much fast.

It’s hardly sharing if you need someone to send the file to you. Really – you can get File and Printer Sharing working without much risk – either by using a decent personal firewall and figuring out how to configure it properly, or using a hardware firewall that sits in between your network and the internet.

I wonder if they really transfer via local area network. or is it because of no hops between the internet connection when you’re in LAN setup..

Yup. It is a breeze to work when both parties are on local network.

Else, Skype sometimes seems to drag even small file transfers.

@ Wishlost : Remember its only when you are in a local network…If you are not in a same network then it will go through the internet connection and that will be slow.

Skype by passes the internet connection when you are in a local network and sharing the file with the user in the same network.

200 Kbps is fairly decent :) .. I’ve used skpye previously, but never for sharing files.. will keep in mind when I need some quick transers

Well, no doubt that’s one of the features of windows but what if you’ve got one Linux machine and another one as Windows. I know there are ways through which Linux and Windows machines can communicate but I’m talking about something real quick :D

This tip won’t change your whole world..it’s just that you’ll be able to send files without playing with File & Printer sharing at a time, when you want to do things real quick :)

for skype to work you need to have internet connenction .. However on network .. i feel windows inbuilt netmeeting could be a good idea ?? Isnt it .. you have desktop sharing capabilities + file sharing :-D .. what do you think ??
