I recently discovered a cool facility of Skype. I’ve to say that I’m falling in love with Skype recently and enjoying the free calls a lot. I know this is available in other messengers as well and Google Talk gives good voice quality but still there is something about skype which makes it much better than others!
Anyway, today I discovered a cool feature of skype while I was sitting along with my friend (rootprotect) and fell more in love with skype after that! Anyway, the feature which we discovered was that we can make free SkypeOUT calls to toll free numbers! I’m sure that your next move will be that you’ll close the browser window but hey before you think that I’m crazy please care to read further.
OK, the new thing which I didn’t know about was that this works for all the toll free numbers available globally. So, if you are in U.S.A. or India or any other country and want to make a phone call to some company which has a toll free number in U.K. then use Skype to make the call as it will be done for free, which otherwise is not possible through normal phones i.e. P.S.T.N.
Where exactly this can be helpful?
Hmm, nice question why will someone need to make a phone call in other country and that too on a toll free number of some company (where toll free numbers are generally used for support and similar reasons). Consider a situation where you visited your friend in U.K. and got a brand new XYZ (put any company over here) laptop for yourself and then came back to your country and then you started to face problem with your laptop but the support at your country is not very good. Then what will you do? Simple mate! use skype to make call to their technical support and that too in U.K. and get the support for free!
I know the above scenario may not be true for some companies but the free phone to all toll free numbers and too globally can be certainly helpful for some of us.
The credit goes solely to the developers of Skpye, Its just that we could not explore it earlier. Anyway its good that you have shared this information with us.
Great tip. I guess I understood that Skype has termination agreements with phone carriers all over the world, but didn’t put 2+2 together.
[...] which is provided for U.S.A. or Canada is also working or not, I used Skype and dialed the number (I was sure that I won’t be charged) and even that number came as incorrect number. Although, I will not believe completely on Skype [...]
If you dial a Singapore toll-free number, you’ll never connect. It must be dialled over a Singapore PSTN. Or, get the local toll number.
Also, post Jan 18, 2007, a connection fee applies to all connected calls.
May be…I’ve not tried toll free numbers of singapore. US & UK toll free number works. Maybe Singapore’s telephone regulatory doesnt allow the VoIP services to make such calls.
thanks for the info :)
