Has downfall of social networks started or do we have more to come ?

Social networks which just changed the way we communicate. I hardly remember sending an email to my friends as I can send them scrap through Orkut or write a wall post and ask them how are they doing and all such social stuff.

However, it seems to me that the downfall of these networks has just started to begin. The reason I feel so is not my personal tastes or likings but the fact that these networks have become a place of spamming.

What was supposed to be the best innovation of 2007 and what was most enjoyed feature of Facebook I.e. opening up of the platform for developers to build applications has now become one of the ways of spamming. Everyday, I get hundreds of requests to join this application or that application and just not pissing me off but it’s pissing thousands of others too as we can see many groups coming up which say that they hate apps or they want apps to be banned by Facebook.

This is just one example, even traffic stats show that the traffic of most of the social networks is going down.

This spamming story is not only with FaceBook but it’s going on with Orkut too. Everyday I get 4-5 spam messages which want me to put a Javascript in the address bar, so that they can send that same message to everyone in my friends list and without letting me know about it.

Well, all these little dirty tricks make these social network look bad, however it’s really the nature of people which is being played by few smart people. People want to know that who likes them or who has a crush on them and using these little dirty tricks, they are spamming the clean places and eventually taking away the interest of people who want a spam less place.

Now this is just with the social networks which I’m part of, however everyday I get at least 5-6 requests to join some or the other social network and they ridiculously try to game you by sending invitation messages which look like they’ve been sent from Facebook.

Well, you can call it a rant however, the idea behind this post was to show the upcoming sorry state of social networks.
