Few days back, I’d mentioned about Defensio, a spam filter solution which was welcomed by Automattic and even though they are the competition. However, I’ll say that I’ve fallen for Defensio and the reason is simple, I get better result from Defensio.
Although, the details of the stopped spam is provided by Akismet but it’s not as detailed as Defensio, so I can’t say the difference between the two but certainly I’m getting less automated emails as far as undetected spam is concerned.
On this blog, I used to get 2-3 emails everyday, which wanted me to take some step against some comment and that was when I was using Akismet but when I used Defensio, I was fairly impressed as the number of email which I received got down to 1 in 2-3 days.
What I loved about Defensio is that it lets you sort the caught messages by Spaminess and thus it becomes pretty easy to find out a false positive!
Anyway, here is the current stats of the blog :
- Recent accuracy: 99.61%
- 5567 spam
- 25 legitimate comments
- 17 false negatives (undetected spam)
- 7 false positives (legitimate comments identified as spam)
Good work Defensio! What about you, are you using Defensio or are you using Akismet ? If you are using Defensio then what is your experience with it ?

presently i am using Akismet and it’s been doing a perfect job in eating out spams..you said about automated emails not comments?

@ Aseem : Yes, i think its better than akismet as far my experience goes.
@ Shashank : Akismet is good and I don’t deny its cool too but I still think that Defensio is slightly better than Akismet. Do try it out.

Looks interesting. Can this be run simultaneously with Akismet. 2 spam protection working at the same should be good, do you think so?

Syahid Ali: Defensio cannot work with Akismet. It is either Defensio or Akismet in this case. Akismet will have a serious influence on the results for Defensio. Defensio learns from your comments and especially in the initial learning phase it needs all comments, not only leftovers by Akismet.

There is no spam comments in my site.But I received a lot of spam letters in my email.Maybe I leave my email in mysite.sometimes if I want to enter a website.and i leave my email too.

askismet is the best WP plugin

For security issues, Askismet is a necessary plugin for WP.
