YearBlook - Your chance of getting in a book!

  31 Mar 2008 by ReviewSaurus | , , , , ,

We all know what is blog and we all know that what is a book and together they are called Blook! YearBlook is a new attempt which is like digg, however they are taking it one step ahead of Digg and other digg like sites. YearBlook lets bloggers submit the stories and at the end of the year they’ll have 365 best stories of the day and then they’d publish them in a book.

The book will be available for purchase at Amazon. The idea is certainly pretty impressive and if at all it picks up and gets hit, I’m sure we’ll have many followers of this idea too! However, there are few things which I would suggest to the founders of YearBlook -

1. Have pro design done : They are using Pligg as the software and that’s a really good choice as it’s a very pro open-source software, however it would have been better if they would have gone for a pro design of the site too. It always leaves a better impression.

2. X Percent of book is complete! : If they can show a percentage bar, which displays that how many posts have been selected and what’s the percent of the book which is complete. This will generate more interest in users and the possibility of them submitting the articles will go up.

3. A niche is required : The idea is super cool, however I wouldn’t love to buy a book on which one article is on design, other on Barack Obama and the third on how Mozilla Firefox kicking the arse of Internet explorer!
It’ll be great if they allow to submit articles from a specific niche only. That way the book will be on one topic only and will be of more value to me as a reader.

Will you buy an YearBlook if your article is not published in it and I believe you’ll buy it if the article is present! Your views please !

    Thanks for the review.

On the question of a niche, if we get enough responses in any of the categories we’d love to make niche books too. But, we don’t want to promise 20 specialized books until we’re certain there will be enough interest in the respective blogger communities to make them.

Agree that we need to improve the design, we’ll be doing that after we add a few more features.

I love the idea about x% of the book is finished. I’m going to try to see if there is a way we can incorporate that.

    Thanks,
    Ted
